A big, big thank you to the USDA/ US forest service for keeping camprounds like saddle lake and others like it free and well maintained.

- Overall, it was a good overnight camping experience that I would recommend for people looking for a "light" camping experience.

- There is a boat ramp, but don't hope to use it. The lake has receded and is inaccessible for boats. (or at least this was the condition on 9/24/14)

Saddle Lake campground is the last in a chain of developed Forest Service campgrounds in this area. Each near its own little lake. This one being the last in the chain had the least amount of humans and had no fee to use it. As a personal policy, I avoid campgrounds, instead opting for secluded dispersed campsites without humans. In this case I had showed up after dark as I often do and didn't feel like finding a dispersed campsite- something that is rewarding but can take time and is best done in the day. The sites were level and the grounds were clean and well maintained.

Beautiful little lake, great rustic camping

- This site is well away from city lights, so the stars were bright and vivid for gazing.

- The path around the lake was nice, and there are multiple dry creek beds to wander for the more adventurous soul, as well as some small rock formations.

Very nice place to camp. The sites are large and relatively level. After camping primitively, Saddle Lake felt luxuriously appointed.

- The camp sites were clean and functional. Fire pits had handy pivoting grills for cooking.

Although not avid hikers, my fiancee and I were looking forward to taking some time out of our busy lives and enjoying nature together. The view is incredible in spots, that is for sure, but the spiders, horse flies, and ticks definitely ruined the mood. Because of constantly fighting through path-wide spider webs with spiders and their prey staring eye to eye with us, it took us 2 and a half hours to complete this 2 mile trail. Never again.
